Customer real experience with GM Tech 2 Scanner (Review)

Here is the real experience by our customer on GM Tech 2 Scanner.

Bought the highest quality version as i didn’t want to risk any issues with the device, and it all works fine and i do not regret my purchase.

It arrived pretty fast, but i got a customs charge which i didn’t realise i’d get.
First impression: the carry case is not the one shown in the photo’s, which is annoying as the one in the photo’s looks really good, With the cables and candi module stored underneath 2 flaps, the main unit and adaptors clipping in the top of the case etc.

What i got was a basic plastic case (with sharp metal catches) where everything is squashed in on one level in foam, it does the job i guess, but i’d really have prefered the better case i thought i was paying the extra £30 for.
I’d bought a genuine Ugreen rs232 to usb cable in advance, £10 off amazon, this is one of the few cables listed as working with the tech2, and it did, connects at highest speed with no issues at all.

The house power supply has an american plug on it (psu has a universal voltage of 100 to 250 volts)
i got worried when the tech2 wouldn’t even turn on, then i noticed the plug had slightly pulled out of the adaptor i had to use, something we are not used to in england as our plugs fit the sockets very securely and are hard to accidentally pull out, so changing the plug is one of the first things to do…
The house psu runs pretty warm btw.

I did all the self tests and it passed them all with flying colours (except the usual HBCC test that gets ignored (used on some ford vehicles i believe) and the RS485 that has no loopback adaptor so will always fail)
I took it out to my car (a 2011 vauxhall meriva B) and plugged it in, it connected straight away and i asked it to give me a list of DTC’s, i had been using an op-com before i got the Tech2 and the tech2 listed some old DTC’s the op-com had never picked up, I cleared the DTC’s, then tried the rest of the diagnostics available, i had no problems so far, i was able to move engine actuators (op-com can’t do that on the meriva B) operate things remotely, saw the DPF was at 108% full, so went for a little drive and the tech2 showed the DPF regen in progress, got an exhaust temp of 650 degrees C during it)

However that test drive showed up the universal weakness of the clone tech2’s, the internal power supply cuts out when you start the engine so the tech2 re-boots, this means there are a few diagnostic tests you can never do that involve starting the engine whilst the tech2 monitors things (unless you use external power to the tech2, which is advised against in all service manuals)

There is a solution, replace the internal power supply module with a better quality unit!!

There is also a highly recommended modification of removing the RS232 chip and putting a usb module in it’s place so you have a direct USB connection to the Professional Diagnostic Tool tech2, rather than the 4 connections that are just begging to be caught and pulled apart whilst uploading software to the car.
These mods are on the tech2 wiki (google it)

I then tried to SPS to my car to add a new IPC… one of the reasons i bought the Tech2.

That’s when discovered my car is not in the list of cars you use the tech2 to service program directly (the: connect tech2 to car, download data, take tech2 to computer, upload data, download software update, take tech2 back to car and upload the software method)

But i figured i could SPS using the tech2 in the J2534 pass thru mode… only my computer couldn’t connect to the tech2 in that mode… remote view of the unit worked but not SPS… i figured the issue out tho…
The rs232 to usb adapter had been assigned to com port 7 when i plugged it in, i changed the com port to COM1
~windows / computer / device manager / ports (COM & LPT) and find the relevant port your rs232 adapter is on (it wont be listed as ‘Tech2′) and change it to port 1~
Now SPS in pass thru mode works perfectly, i updated the software in a few of the modules (i use GlobalTis 32b, the last offline version with full SPS capability, was released in 2012 i believe, and it had newer software than my 2011 car had in it)

Then i did an update of the BCM and IPC to allow the rain sensor i’d just wired in to be seen by the systems, I tried to add a new immobilizer key, but it refused the accept the new key, most likely the key is at fault.. as part of learning new keys is to delete the old ones from the system, and the tech2 added them back no problem.

I’ve also used the tech2 to connect to ford vehicles using some software called ‘ForScan’ it has the Tech2 listed as a J2534 pass thru devise and works fine with it, The pcmcia card that came with the Tech2 allowed it’s self to be re-written (some people buying from other places find the card is locked and can’t be re-written)
i used GlobalTis’s card writer feature, it takes 40 minutes to write the card, but it works fine.

I’m very pleased with my Tech2 so far, the only thing that would make it perfect would be the carry case that’s shown in the photo’s, but that dosent affect how the actual devise works.

I’d recommend anyone buy their Tech2 from CnAutotool, and i have pointed a few people who were interested in buying one here.

What is the NOX system?

Nox is a system in compliance with European standards that can be used on Euro5 and Euro6 Vehicles. The usage of this system is obligatory in Europe Countries.

The system is interoperable with AdBlue system.

There is two kind of Nox sensors. One of them controls the gas and AdBlue that enter the SCR catalyzer. Others sensor is used to control the output data of SCR catalyzer.

The AdBlue system may report a fault indicator in case one of these sensors fails.

Nox sensor Failure Solutions;

If the NOx system is corrupted and the correct value is not sent, the Adblue system may crash.

Your car may report a fault indicator in case one of crashing of AdBlue system.

SCR system(catalyzer) is also affected by Nox sensor failure. Consequently, SCR and Nox systems are integrated systems.

These systems are generally called Adblue systems. In AdBlue systems, there is a control box.

This box controls the systems such as AdBlue tank, SCR, and Nox, and sends constant information to the ECU.

With this process, the vehicle continues to work.

The deterioration of the NOx sensor can cause heavy costs. Unluckily, if the system collapses, you can be stranded and you may lose money and time.

If NOx systems fail, Adblue emulators are used. Particularly, these emulators stand between system and ECU and it filters out certain codes from the system and transmits them to the vehicle’s brain.

For instance, if the system fails, Nox system send error code. The sent code will reach the ECU directly from the control box.

In this case, the vehicle may stop and service light is on and you should take your vehicle to the service urgently.

Poorly, this process is getting worse if you are in rural area.

This device that we sell and called as Ablue emulator, precludes such problems contributively and when Nox system or other relative systems fail, regulates the error codes and sends the durable code to ECU.

So your vehicle continues to work as all systems is rugged completely.

As a result, you get rid of spending your time or money uselessly.

How to install Crack TIS2000 on XP?
As for Tis2000, need to run under XP,.
So the short version, build a VM shell in XP with something like VM work station on your win 10 machine, load the three discs to the VM shell, install the crack, then build the driver.

If your laptop does not have an RS232 port, then will need to buy the needed usb cable to connect the Tech II to the laptop, and make sure to install the needed USB driver into the XP shell as well.
Drivers are listed about half way down on the page.

As for the cracked Tis2000 (all three disc’s and dongle crack), pretty easy to find for free on the web with a search to download it for free.

As for what came with the clone, some users consider it is just a PDF file, actually it is a file that needs to be decompressed with something like 7-zip to produce the three iso’s and the dongle crack folder with instructions.

A/C Delco TDS online is not a bad thing, and only $40 per vin/car for two year period.
On the other hand, Tis2000 cracked can be mod’d to do SPS programming on any car up to 2013 for free instead.

Purpose:
The cylinder cutout test allows one cylinder or multiple cylinders to be cut out. The cylinder cutout test is useful when troubleshooting poor engine performance or a suspected injector failure.
Test Operation:
The cylinder cutout test disables the injector by not providing the injector pulse to the solenoid. The cylinder cutout test can be performed on one injector or multiple injectors at once.

-Ensure Transmission is in Neutral or Electrical Load is removed from Generator.
-Fan cycling, A/C compressor cycling, or changes in Engine Load will invalidate this test.

Before deciding to buy MB STAR C3, sdconnect c4 / SD C5, you need to answer a couple questions why you want a MUX/Diagnostics.

1.  Do you just want to read and reset fault codesin your car?
2.  Do you want to change configurations?
3.  Do you want to purchase something now that you can use for any newer cars you may get?

If you only want to read and reset fault codes you do not need ANY MUX (C3/C4) at all!! You can just use a passthru cable for around $20 or get fancy and get a wireless passthru “cable”. There are limitations with what a passthru cable can do but not sure what. I only used it to read initial codes on a 2017 GLA 250 while I was waiting for my C4 to arrive. I used a Toyota MVCI Xhorse clone.

If you want more support capability than a passthru you only need a C3 MUX for your car and use XENTRY/DAS 11/2012 version (this is the last most thorough version compatible with C3 MUX)If you want to purchase a “future proof” mux that can read old and new cars then purchase a C4 MUX and use the latest XENTRY 2019 version. C3 MUX with 2012 DAS software can work up to 2011 W204 from my own experience.

There are different chipsets (better or cheaper clone copies) on the circuit boards in the C4 MUX so you have to be careful which you buy — many places may have just as good of quality mux but this is where I purchased mine with the better chips (verified once I received it), good packaging, fast shipping and communicated well prior to buying it

Recently, there is one sdconnect C4 Plus MUX, which is needed for some newer cars with DoIP protocol like W222, covering Benz cars from 1989 to 2019 year.

What make it difference is it is compatible with DTS Monaco and Vediamo.

C5 MUXs that are being sold are mostly FAKE — they are only C4 MUX with upgraded housings. You can mod a C4 for DoIP if needed. A true C5 is very expensive and has its own HDD.

You can get the software from cartechnology.co.uk for free and another great site is mhhauto.com but have to pay $25 to register — both sites are invaluable!! I have had to use information from both sites.

I myself went overboard and spent a bit on a Samsung 9 Pro laptop upgraded to a 1TB NvME SSD drive with Windows 10 that converts into a tablet that I use dedicated to my car diagnostic programs (325GB+ just in XENTRY/Vediamo/EPC/WIS/Starfinder/SDMedia) I use this wirelessly with a C4 MUX.

If you are not computer literate then by all means purchase a complete set with MUX and laptop with software preloaded. Anyhow hope this helps get you in the right direction but most users can get by with everything needed for only a few dollars using just a passthru cable.

How to Restore BMW ICOM NEXT? This post will show an obd2eshop customer’s solution to BMW ICOM Next restore when you has red LEDs turn on issue when running firmware upgrade. In order to solve your incident, please apply the following 12 steps:

Note: DO NOT UNPLUG the BMW ICOM Next emulator from the {OBD II} jack after an update via {ISTA}, a web interface or an emergency software update.

The {ICOM Next} starts with flashing green SYSTEM {LED}s. After about 10 seconds it shows red {LED}s for about 2 minutes. After this, the {ICOM Next} reboots due to a firmware update.

If the {ICOM Next} {LED}s remain red for more than 10 minutes, or if the {ICOM Next} is unplugged directly after an update, please carry out the following procedure:

1. Please ensure that ALL of the following prerequisites are satisfied:

1.1. You require a USB 2.0 or USB 3.0 flash drive. {USB 1.x flash drives are not supported).

1.2. The USB flash drive must be formatted with a FAT32 file system.

1.3. A minimum of 60 MByte free space is required on the USB flash drive.

2. Navigate to “C:\ProgramData\BMW\ISPI\data\TRIC\ICOMNext\ICOM-Image-03-14-08”.

ProgramData folder is hidden by default. In that case, you have two options in order to access the file or the folder:

– change the settings directly in the Windows Explorer (“Tools => Folder Options => View => Show hidden files, folders or drives”)

– or enter the whole path into the Windows Explorer’s address bar and press enter.

3. Copy “{ICOM_Next-rootfs-010002.tar.gz}” to the root directory of the {USB} flash drive.

4. Copy “{ICOM_Next-app-010008.tar.gz}” to the root directory of the {USB} flash drive.

5. Disconnect the {ICOM Next} from the power supply.

6. Plug the {USB} flash drive into the {ICOM NEXT}.

7. Press and hold the button pressed on the {ICOM Next} and connect the {ICOM NEXT} to the {OBD II} jack of a vehicle.

8. Keep the button pressed. The {ICOM NEXT} starts with all {LED}s glowing red. The {LED}s stay red; some may flicker orange/yellow. Keep the button pressed.

9. Keep the button pressed. After about 4 seconds, all {LED}s turn orange/yellow. All {LED}s now glow in the same colour.

10. Release the button and then press it three times within five seconds. The {LED}s glow or flash red and orange/yellow again.

11. Wait: This procedure may take several minutes. Do not disconnect the {ICOM NEXT} as long as any {LED} glows red.

12. After about 5 minutes the SYSTEM {LED} turns green again. The {ICOM NEXT} has been updated and is ready for use.

IMPORTANT: When the software update is complete, the {ICOM NEXT} needs to be connected to the dealer’s network in order to be reconfigured.

All previous settings are lost during the update. If there is a “{user.settings}” file on the {USB} flash drive, it will be applied after the firmware update.

VXDIAG VCX Nano GDS2 & Tech2Win Work Good for GM

Today we’d like to share user’s experience with VXDIAG VCX NANO GDS2 Device , it is for GM/OPEL, this one support WIFI connection . You can use tech 2 to view and diag BCM, HVAC, issues, BOSE issues, etc…

I had a 4.0+ amp draw since I purchased the car, problem is I thought it was intermittent issue, 2nd issue was once the voltage dropped below the threshold the amp draw would disappear… in the end it was reproducible after 3 on then off, then lock, key cycles. ended up being the MSM memory seat module (aka seat control module) well the dealer wanted time to program it for $90. Since I already replaced it, I was tired of paying the stealerships for 5 mins of coding. New MSM’s are blank and require programming, hence the need for this tool, nothing comes close as for cost and end result.

Now on to the good news, new MSM installed and coded and working great and no amp draw, also playing around I found other control modules that needed to be updated, some things I saw available as well like – After blower option for our HVAC. Looks like we might be able to update to add a rear camera if we have the factory parts.

I even updated my Magneride suspension F55, radio, HVAC, Drive door control module, some others had updates available.

GM MDI GDS2 programming…

USB Drivers, and software setup was a little bit of a PITA, its not exactly a straight forward install, and no instructions other than some youtube videos.

If you just want a Tech 2 its comes with the VXDIAG, you access GDS2 programming its via GM’s acdelcotds site to install that software, there’s not a lot of documentation.

The CD that came with my interface only had tech 2 & MDI software, and VMplayer to run GDS2 for 30 days, I am still trying to figure stuff out.

Which version do you have wifi or usb? also try downloading the new VX manager from all scanners website (Chinese everywhere but you will see it towards the bottom), then update the VX interfaces drivers I believe as of writing this is 1.5xxx, (VX manager was buggy, I had to restart the application a few times and reboot once) from the VX manager of the left make sure to install pass-thru & GDS2/T2W drivers, I was not able to connect at all without all the drivers installed of this completed correctly.

Getting the SPS working took a lot of Java updates and requiring me to turn off windows defender and firewall rules, also on GM’s site, you may purchase their version of the emulation software for tech 2 which is $275 (1x time fee) which I skipped on. I only pulled fault codes and looked at some tech 2 stuff but seemed ok, also did you have a battery charger on when you where bleeding? key on engine off eats power, as a former MB tech we always hooked up the battery charger anytime the SDS (MB’s tool) was connected. I will try playing around with the tech 2 some more I need to bleed the brakes on my 2016 Sierra.

I mostly used this for programming via SPS, best part is it will work for 2008-2017 GM vehicles for programming which for me and my entire family works perfect!

GDS2 as it is global diag systems, only seems to work for most new vehicles like 2012 CTS since we are on a CTSV site, otherwise Tech 2 is the diag… tool used for most vehicles which would include abs bleed function.
