BMW ICOM Next Diagnostic Tool Review

Here, I’m perfectly aware what ICOM Next is and I have it.

Icom next runs a gigabyte lan port. So if router and laptop also running gigabyte ports you increase speed, that’s only if the car and software allow it.

Also the Icom next is faster for G series cars which I suspect also have gigabyte Ethernet bus.

Also it has USB3.0 instead of USB2.0 and a better wifi card.

Note that ICOM Next B is different from ICOM B. And ICOM Next A does not work with ICOM B on full speed.

For BMW G series:

Interface = ICOM

ISTA-D=Diagnostic software

ISTA-P = Coding Software

ISTA-P= Programming (Flashing) Software

BMW G series coding:

Unlike E/F series, all Diagnosis and Coding on G series cannot be done with a cheap ENET Cable or K+DCAN cable.

BMW ICOM is the only option for G series.

BMW G series programming:

For Programming (Flashing ECU’s with new Firmware), then you must have ISTA/P for G-Series cars

Note that for F-Series Programming, you will need an ENET Cable, but for E/G-Series Programming, you can use an ICOM emulator.

How to set up or configure WLAN for BMW ICOM Next

You need: good router working for your Icom Next interface


Step 1: Router Wireless Connection Setup

Step 2: ICOM Next WLAN Configuration

Step 1: Router Wireless Connection Setup


WIFI encryption: WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK

WIFI password: BmwAp24h


Step 2: ICOM Next WLAN Configuration

Run ITool Radar and read ICOM Next device info (IP address)


Open IE browser and input the ICOM configuration address (IP address http//***.***.***.***:58000 differs, according to the data read in fact)
Disconnect network connection and the Next restarts

BMW Icom Next will connect to WIFI automaticallyIf we use software and USB-WIFI, the configuration info should be:

Mode: 802.11n,2.4GHz


Security Type: WPA2 Personal

Pre‐shared Key: BmwAp24h
