How to solve the problem that BMW Icom A2 A3 host can’t be connected?

Aftre the BMW ICOM host is connected to the car via a 16PIN connector, and the other side is connected to the computer via a network cable. Your BMW ICOM lan and system lights will light up. As follows:

But at this moment,the host can’t be found in the computer.As follows:

When meeting the problem,please update your BMW ICOM firmware as the following method:

1.Please connect BMW ICOM to the computer vith network cable and power on the BMW ICOM with a 12V power adapter.

2.Open the website address http

3.Click the “update firmware”,it will show ICOM firmware version information.

4.Choose the file ICOM-BootImage-01-11-01.bin,set image type to SYSTEM,click “Send the file”.

5.When shows “Write the image file to the flash?”,click “Yes”,then ICOM light turns red.

6.When shows “The SYSTEM IMAGE update was successfull”,click “Update Firmware”.

7.Choose the file ICOM-ApplicationImage-01-15-01.bin,set image type to APPLICATION.Click “Send the file”.It will takes a few minutes because of a little large file.

8.When shows “Write the image file to the flash?”,click “Yes”,then the ICOM light turns red for the second time.

9.It is all normal,click “reboot”.

After finishing these steps,please connect again,the ICOM host will be found in the computer,as follows:

How to do BMW coding with ISTA on MacBook Pro

Here are the details of my setup of MacBook Pro with VW Fusion – Windows 10 or Bootcamp, both working for BMW coding with ICOM software.
Hardware: 2015 Retina Macbook Pro 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD
Software: VMWare Fusion 10
VM Specs:
Windows 10 64Bit
4GB RAM
Thinly provisioned 200GB VM. (Thin means it only takes the space it is using but Windows thinks it is 200GB total.)
Software working on VM:
BMW Standard Tools 2.12 (NCSexpert, WinFKP, INPA, etc)
ISTA-D (Dealership Diagnostic Software, I did not install ISTA-P due to space concerns)
E-Sys (For newer Fxx/Gxx/Ix cars)
I back up my VM on an external hard drive and I take snap shots of the VM in case upgrades to the software fails and breaks.
I am very happy with this setup.
Another option instead of VM fusion is to bootcamp the mac. That’s what I’ve done also. It partitions the hard drive into separate drives, allowing you to boot the Mac up into windows natively. Then used bimmergeeks.com software packages. It’s very clear and easy to understand. It’s also been condensed some and has the most recent updates in place….
BootCamp
Pros:
Free + windows 10 license
All system resources are utilized by Windows only.
Acts like a windows machine
Cons:
Requires permanent space allocated to BootCamp
Requires rebooting if you ever want to go back to Mac
Unable to write into MacOS side of things without 3rd party drivers
VM
Pros:
Snapshots
Space allocated is only like a file, so free space is still utilized by Mac
No need to restart to get into Windows for something.
Cons:
Not free, and annual upgrades start to cost a lot
Shares resources with MacOS which can be limited if the Mac doesn’t have enough RAM, CPUs etc.
A little more complicated in initial setup sometimes.
Both have its merits and I ultimately like BMW ICOM A2 when the mac has enough resources to run it.

HOW TO DO PROGRAMMING WITH ISTA+

Until now, different systems for BMW diagnostic tool vehicle diagnosis (ISTA) and programming (ISTA/P) have been used. This means it was necessary to change systems several times when repairing a vehicle using software.

ISTA+ has been expanded so that all the required programming functions for the series F, G and I are integrated.

E-series vehicles still have to be programmed using ISTA/P!

What is used for BMW G30 ECU flash

Purpose: Need to flash a BWM G series G30

Puzzle: Is the ICOM Next mandatory or is the up to date ICOM 1st generation ICOM from 2012 ok?
Can I flash NBT EVO with old ICOM?

Advice & Options:

1.

ENET cable would probably be better for you.

2.

I flashed NBT EVOs with old ICOM without problems.

3.

Flashed all Cars with ICOM Next and Online Aos with DHCP over Router. Since that i have Never any Problems with NBT or other. Flash E/F/G with this Setup.

Note that Online Aos is the online version of the BMW software for Diagnostic, Programming any many other things.

To answer your question
1st : you doesn’t need iCOM NEXT ON CnAutotool to flash the G series…but It actually Lot better & save up your times because iCOM NEXT has build in Gigabit connection.
2nd : old iCOM working find. It just take a lot longer.

Icom best any type , router I noticed w my setup I use desktop w 2 lan port and on a few f cars it actually faster then oem it programs up to 8 module same time w gigabit switch , and handle data lots faster than etnet cable and for certain modules the router is a must will crash hu high in kombi in a few others

Any icom will work , but to be safe with f,g,i series vehicles , use a dedicated router as kafas huh and a few other modules will crash if you do not use a router it handles the switches for Ethernet as those modules use more than 1 path way , in short it uses all 4 two pair wires and without router not good , this has worked for me for some time now good luck. note my router does not connect to wan

Conclusion:

ICOM Next is the best option for G series, working better and faster than old BMW ICOM cables. It handles multiprogramming and coding quite nicely. Gets the job done much faster if flashing the complete vehicle. Also, another benefit to Next will be compatibility for future cars.

This is roughtly how it works, and my dummy interpretation of it.Please read it fully if you want to understand, this isn’t exactly a quick cheat sheet guide.

On pre’02 cars the coding is slightly different method than post 02 cars. I am going to elaborate on coding individual parameters, you can go learn how to code entire modules thru the VO later once you learn the basics below.

The first part to understand is what this stuff about ZCS/VO or “vehicle order” is. When BMW makes a car, they create whats called a “vehicle. this basically a bunch of numbers writen into the car that tell what modules are installed in the car, regional info etc. This is like your car’s DNA! for example if the car has a sunroof, or a convertible or radio etc etc and that is was meant for US,Canada, France etc. Because each car is different with a different set of options/modules or country that its located, the” vehicle order” aka.”ZCS” or”VO” may be differnt. why is it called ZCS you ask ? because its abbreviated german, and its confusting as hell.

The VO is wrriten into a couple modules of the car, usually ones that start with an “A”, Like AKMB or ALSZ. On some cars its written elsewhere. In my 02 M3, the VO Was written in ALSZ and AKMB. On my “00328 Ci it was stored in EWS, KMB. Its nothing more than a string of text/numbers stored in the flash memory of these modules, nothing special. why is it written into two places? because if one module is failed and has to be replaced, then the other will serve as a backup so you can code the new replacement module to your car. for example ALSZ is the “light switch module” in your car .

ICOM A (A2, A3) – OBD diagnostic supporting MOST, D-CAN and K-CAN protocols

ICOM A is a basic component.  Physically, on one hand, it supplies the interface that connects with car OBD II diagnosing interface; on the other hand, it can supply the interface that is self-adaptable intergraded into garage. As protocol converter, it is responsible for testing and data exchange in different controlling units, as well as signal processing through a high effective computer core. ICOM B is the external MOST interface of ICOM A, and it connect with ICOM A by a usual USB or that within supplying. Power is supplied by USB through ICOM A.
Only when the power supplied to ICOM A lower to 8V, can electrical running of ICOM B be ready to connect with standard.

ICOM C–20-pin cable for previous types

ICOM C for old series with a diagnostics socket will be additionally equipped with an approx. 20 cm long cable, which facilitates the connection of the ICOM A2 and makes storage in the engine compartment easier.
